Abstract : This study sheds lights on the educational characteristics of the population in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the years 2000-2016. It attempts to find the most important changes and variations that occurred during the past two decades in educational characteristics of the population at the level of the administrative regions of the Kingdom. The study was based on analytical descriptive methods, and its fundamental sources depended on statistical data. The study reached a number of results, the most important of which was the reduction of illiteracy rate from 19.9% in 2000 to 6.98% in 2016. There is also a disparity in the rate of illiteracy among the regions, but it noted that the largest decline is in areas where illiteracy is high. The decrease in the illiteracy rate was also found among women, due to the state's focus during this period on women's education, due to the high illiteracy rate among them, which is higher than that of men. There was also a decline in the percentage of primary and intermediate qualification holders in the Kingdom's regions, and the percentage is not very varied between regions; however, the percentage of intermediate certificate holders has increased in the regions of Jazan and Najran only, unlike the rest of the regions. The study revealed that beginning with the secondary certificate, the effects of the decline in the previous educational stages began to appear. The percentage of secondary certificate holders in all regions rose without exception in 2016, and there was a balance in secondary certificate holders between the Kingdom's regions. Between 25% and 30% of the total population. As for bachelor's degree holders, there is no similarity in their percentage among regions; while in some areas they account for more than 20% of the total population, in some areas it does not exceed 8%, and this is considered a kind of variation. There was also a slight relative change in the rise of higher degree holders in the regions; however, in the main and larger areas of the population, the number of higher degree holders increased.
